History & Background:The Mount Waverley Art Show, “the artists' choice”, was established in 1973 by the Holy Family Parish in Mount Waverley. The show was originally established as a parish event and still is very much a community event, having expanded from these humble origins. The show has grown beyond all expectations and exhibits over 1,000 traditional paintings from 300 plus artists from all over Australia. Mount Waverley Art Show is non profit and distributes all profits to local and overseas Charities. Prize money is the richest in Victoria for a non-acquisitive show with over $13,000 available to be won by successful artists.
Prize categories:
Our Aim:To promote and foster traditional art works and professionally present the artists' work for sale.
Audience:Well over 3,000 people visit the show over the Weekend and on Monday. Due to our reputation people come from all over the Melbourne metropolitan area to enjoy the ambience and purchase paintings. Mt Waverley Art Show is the second largest indoor art show in Victoria and has gained a reputation second to none for Presentation and Sales. The committee all work voluntarily for 8 months of the year preparing for the show.
The Event:The opening night is always on the first Friday in August in the form of a cocktail party, which allows guests the opportunity to preview and purchase paintings before the show is opened to the public on Saturday. The show is open to the public from 10.00am to 9.00pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Artist night, which commences at 7.00pm Monday night, is very popular with buyers as well as artists. The night allows buyers and artists an opportunity to meet in an informal atmosphere.
